Here's something that just popped-up tonight, Avi. It looks like the Avatar concept is finally taking root in a more two-dimensional path, though conceptually unlimited manner in the context of the Internet and social networking. This was a pretty cool announcement from the WordPress team.:

I see a great deal of potential in the conceptualization in the social networking sphere -- and without having to load-up a 3D app to gain identity or clarity into personal branding/associations of identity. Though, of course, not the same beast -- but -- certainly inspirational toward how it can tie-in with say, virtual worlds, and how we can display iconographic Gravatar identity along with our information from our blogs, our social networks -- anywhere where we store ourselves.
