  • Developed the first generation 3D engine for LindenLab for their fully-modifiable on-line streaming 3D world/game called Second Life
  • Developed a real-time "global illumination" (simplified radiosity) model with thousands of movable lights and shadows for all objects, optimized visibility culling, particle systems, and advanced hardware rendering optimizations.
  • Developed fully procedural 3D object (prim) creation and modification, optimized character animation, and other special effects
~ Keyhole (Google Earth) ~
  • A real-time, high-performance, whole-earth streaming 3D client with graphical search engine and earth-mapped 3D User Interface and more
  • Took the application from tech demo to functional prototype, helping to fund the company and design the product, much as it appears today.
  • Co-designed the underlying system for our PC client to seamlessly roam a multi-terabyte (even petabyte) remotely hosted database with the ability to pan and zoom anywhere on Earth to an arbitrary image resolution (e.g., 10 cm pixels, where available)
  • Designed and developed the original 3D user interface (flying, zooming, etc..) systems that make it easy to use. Includes roads, text labels, placemarks, borders, and so on.
  • Designed and developed the precursor to KML (before XML was popular), allowing dynamic markup and customization of the 2D & 3D UI elements, as well as external control via simple data bundles.

  • Technical Lead for DisneyQuest’s VR Roller Coaster ride ("Cyberspace Mountain" — shipped 1998)
  • Invented the free-space (similar to the Wii controller) multi-participant rowing and built the first working prototype of the Virtual Jungle Cruise Ride.
  • Worked as a design and technology consultant for many of their other VR rides

  • Developed core 3D rendering/compositing for Picaboo, Inc, for their print-quality photo album application.
  • Developed 3D flight tracking software for Atair’s robotic parachute and other GPS-guided systems
  • Built CAVE-like technology and 3D experiences for Worldesign (detail) and Disney.
